The Stooges’ gear stolen

(Tuesday August 05, 2008 04:47 PM)
Thieves made off with a truckload of The Stooges’ musical equipment after the band played a festival show in Canada yesterday (August 4).The band had appeared at Osheaga Festival in Montreal before the rented vehicle – containing various amps, guitars and a drumkit – was stolen from outside the Embassy Suite Hotel. Most galling for Stooges member Mike Watt though was the loss of a bass guitar he’d first played while with seminal US punk troupe Minutemen in the 1980s.The guitar was “priceless” according to the band’s road manager Eric Fischer.“That bass would go in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame some day if we could find it,” Fischer told the Detroit Free Press.“We’re all just gutted.”The theft won’t keep The Stooges from any of their forthcoming live dates, however; the band vowing to rent and borrow equipment to make shows in Canada, the US and Europe over the coming months.
