Them Crooked Macca

(Monday January 18, 2010 12:09 AM)

Paul McCartney almost became bass player in Them Crooked Vultures, he has revealed.

The former Beatle discussed the position with drummer Dave Grohl following February's Grammy Awards and ahead of the supergroup's launch.

However, he was too late to get involved, with The Who's John Paul Jones taking the position alongside the Foo Fighters' star and Josh Homme, from Queens Of The Stone Age.

"We went out for a bite to eat afterwards and Dave told me he was starting this band with Josh", said Macca of their meeting last year.

"I asked him who was playing bass and he rather sheepishly told me he'd approached John.

"So you read it here first; Paul McCartney was nearly the bass player in Them Crooked Vultures", joked the rock legend.

Kelis vs PETA

(Monday January 18, 2010 05:32 AM)

Kelis has returned fire in a dispute with PETA, after they demanded she stop wearing fur.

The US star has been targeted by the animal rights group, who are angered by her choice of clothing.

However, after receiving a letter from the organisation, she has now posted a message online, defending her actions.

"If I started wearing endangered animals like polar bear or orangutan then talk to me (which for the record I would not - I do believe in the preservation of endangered species).

"But the minks and chinchilla that quite honestly are rodents and if weren't in the form of a coat, I would demand they be put to death anyway", wrote Kelis.

Haiti fundraiser launched

(Monday January 18, 2010 05:28 AM)

Bono, Sting and Justin Timberlake are amongst the music icons set to appear at a telethon for victims of the Haiti earthquake, according to reports.

George Clooney is coordinating the fundraising concert, following last week's tragedy, which has claimed the lives of many thousands of people.

The Red Cross, Oxfam, Partners In Health and Jean's Yele Haiti Foundation are set to benefit from the event.

The actor confirmed news of the January 22 show, which will be co-hosted by former local resident Wyclef Jean, at last night's Golden Globes.

Meanwhile, Madonna is reported to have donated $250,000 to the fund and Lady GaGa has also promised to raise money.

All proceeds from her upcoming concert at Radio City Music Hall show in New York will go to the effort.

Perry thanks water bottle for Brand union

(Monday January 18, 2010 05:26 AM)

Katy Perry began her romance with Russell Brand at last year's Video Music Awards (VMAs) in New York City in a bizarre way - she threw an empty water bottle at his head.

The I Kissed A Girl hitmaker and the comic have been dating ever since they ran into one another at the event in September - and they recently sealed their union by becoming engaged.

Perry has revealed the unusual technique which helped land her man - and admits her aim was crucial to help break the ice.

She says, "I threw an empty water bottle at his head across Radio City Music Hall at the VMAs and it hit him straight in the head and I said 'Hiiiiiiii!!' And from then on it's always been like 'Oh God...' So thanks, empty water bottle."

And the singer, who accepted Brand's proposal during a New Year's trip to India, is adamant she's in no rush to exchange vows with her funnyman fiance.

She adds, "We love each other and we desperately want to be with each other, so we're going to take it as we come. I think the right time will be the right time."

Cole for BRITs

(Monday January 18, 2010 03:15 AM)

Cheryl Cole will perform at the 2010 BRIT Awards next month, it has been announced.

The Girls Aloud singer turned solo star has joined the bill, alongside Lady GaGa, Kasabian and JLS.

As previously reported, Robbie Williams is scheduled to close the event, after collecting the Outstanding Achievement gong.

Meanwhile, Dizzee Rascal and Florence & The Machine are expected to perform together, on a song with the working title of "You Got The Dirtee Love".

The BRIT Awards take place at Earl's Court on February 16.

DJ's Van Halen outrage

(Monday January 18, 2010 03:12 AM)

A British DJ has come underfire from mental health groups after playing Van Halen's "Jump" moments before a suicidal woman leapt from a bridge.

Steve Penk was broadcasting on 96.2FM The Revolution recently when four lanes of the M60 had to be closed because of the drama.

As police attempted to talk the woman down, a listener phoned in to request the rock classic, which was then aired.

Penk played it after expressing his sympathy for road users, but the unidentified individual then jumped from the 30ft bridge.

She only suffered minor injuries but the DJ has been slammed for his actions and accused of acting in "very poor taste" by Mind.

Boyzone broke down during Gately tribute video

(Monday January 18, 2010 02:26 AM)

The members of Boyzone broke down in tears as they filmed a tribute video for late bandmate Stephen Gately as the promo for the band's first single since his death in October.

The No Matter What hitmakers decided to honour the late singer by shooting a simple video for new track Gave It All Away, which will see the four remaining stars of the band "reminiscing" about their late pal.

But despite admitting some memories made the group laugh out loud, frontman Ronan Keating insists the tribute was very distressing to be part of.

He tells The Sun newspaper, "The footage is incredibly raw and tough to watch at times but we didn't want it being too mournful and there's lots of laughter.

"It's us reminiscing about the times we had with our other brother. My favourite scene sees us four sat around a table at the end with Stephen's favourite picture hanging behind us. To film this video without him was one of the toughest things we've done."

Gately died at his home in Majorca, Spain, in October after suffering a build-up of fluid in his lungs brought on by an undiagnosed heart condition.

Ivanova: 'Ronnie was proud of my reality TV stint'

(Monday January 18, 2010 01:26 AM)

Ekaterina Ivanova got her ex Ronnie Wood's seal of approval for her short-lived stint on Celebrity Big Brother - despite romping with Swedish singer Basshunter.

The former cocktail waitress was thrown out of the Big Brother house on Friday after just a week on the show, despite steamy on-screen smooches with the Euro-pop sensation.

Although she was not a hit with TV audiences, Ivanova insists her former Rolling Stones lover - who she split from in December - was "proud" of her behaviour on the show.

She says, "Ronnie told me he thought I was great. He said he's been staying watching me in the house all hours. He said he was really proud of me for being myself and that he really misses me."

But the stunning 21 year old insists there is little hope for the pair's romance to be reignited: "There's still a strong connection there. But that chapter is over."

Wood was cautioned for assaulting Ivanova during a violent argument days before they broke up. He split from wife of 23 years, Jo, in 2008 after his affair with Ivanova was made public.

Elton won't take Simon's seat on Idol

(Sunday January 17, 2010 05:26 AM)

A representative for Sir Elton John has shot down reports the singer will take Simon Cowell's place on American Idol next year.

Cowell, who has been with the US talent show since its inception in 2002, announced earlier this week that he'd be quitting the programme when his current contract expires in May.

His departure has prompted much speculation about who will replace him as a judge on the show - and Rocket Man Elton's name has been mentioned.

The singer/songwriter served as a guest judge on Idol in 2004, but his spokesperson insists he won't be taking a permanent position on the show in the future.

The rep tells GossipCop.com, "He is not going to be a judge."

Cowell has made it clear he'd like show host Ryan Seacrest to double up as a judge after he leaves.

Carey to pop the cork on her own champagne

(Sunday January 17, 2010 02:26 AM)

Mariah Carey is to launch a champagne brand.

Angel Champagne by MC will hit stores later this year and join her 2006 Mariah Zinfandel on beverage store shelves.

In announcing her new champagne on Friday, Carey poked fun at her boozy performance at the Palm Springs International Film Festival on 6 January.

The pop star and filmmaker pal Lee Daniels were toasting the success of their film Precious backstage and she hit the podium a little tipsy.

She says, "(I) didn't realise they put the champagne on the tables, so we WOULDN'T drink it!"

Scherzinger focusing on music to get over Hamilton

(Sunday January 17, 2010 02:26 AM)

Newly single Nicole Scherzinger is throwing herself into her solo career in a bid to get over her recent break-up.

The Pussycat Dolls frontwoman split from Formula One star Lewis Hamilton earlier this month after a two-year relationship.

But instead of remaining downbeat about the split, Scherzinger is focusing on her music - she's teamed up with Ne-Yo to produce tracks for her upcoming solo album.

He says, “Nicole is in a state of liberation right now so the tracks are very free. She is in a place where she is happy to be alive and the tracks are definitely expressing that.

“The whole album is going to be a pressure release - a great big exhale - and I’m happy about that. She has a lot of emotions after splitting up with Lewis. But it’s like taking an eagle and giving it back its wings.”

Britney misses court date

Britney Spears missed a Los Angeles court date for a conservatorship hearing on Friday due to a "misunderstanding".

The pop star's aides asked Commissioner Reva Goetz to postpone the case, fearing the pop star would be besieged by the paparazzi after word leaked about the time of her court date - and they thought the delay had been agreed.

But Goetz tells TMZ.com that that wasn't the case and now Spears must show up in court on 22 January.

The commissioner says, "The court was supposed to meet with Ms. Spears... and there was a misunderstanding. I'm going to continue the matter until next Friday at 1:30 and she will be here."

Sandstorm causes havoc on Peas video shoot

(Sunday January 17, 2010 01:31 AM)

Filming for the new Black Eyed Peas' video had to be abandoned on Wednesday after the band was caught in a sandstorm in the Californian desert.

The group was shooting the promo for its next singe just outside of Los Angeles when the wind whipped up the sand.

Frontwoman Fergie, clad in a black robotic-themed leotard, was protected by a minder, while her bandmates will.i.am, Taboo and apl.de.ap also halted their work on the video, according to the Daily Mail.

Lady Gaga's The Fame has celebrated it's first anniversary on the European charts in the top spot - the album has scored a second week at number one.

Black Eyed Peas' The E.N.D. and Susan Boyle's I Dreamed A Dream also stay put on the European Hot 100 - at numbers two and three respectively.

Michael Buble's Crazy Love and Reality Killed The Video Star by Robbie Williams round out the new top five.
