Slash attacks blogger

Slash hopes the internet blogger who reportedly leaked tracks from the new Guns N' Roses album "rots in jail".

The band's former guitarist has been speaking about Kevin Cogill, who is alleged to have posted a number of unreleased songs in the internet earlier this year.

He was released on $10,000 bail this week and could face a spell in prison amid a full FBI investigation.

Speaking about his fate, the Velvet Revolver guitarist insisted: "I hope he rots in jail. It's going to affect the sales of the record, and it's not fair.

"The internet is what it is, and you have to deal with it accordingly, but I think if someone goes and steals something, it's theft."

Meanwhile, Guns have issued a statement commenting on the news, as fans await the forever delayed "Chinese Democracy".

It reads: "Presently, though we don't support this guy's actions at that level, our interest is in the original source. We can't comment publicly at this time as the investigation is ongoing."

Spears is nominated for Best Female and Best Pop Video categories, for her track Piece of Me.

But Williams has told Spears not to be concerned if fans fail to acknowledge her achievements at the ceremony - insisting she has already made a hugely successful dent in the music industry.

He tells People.com, "She's made her mark with her career. She's super-talented. She's an entertainer."

"I'm not sure (if she will win). I don't even know if it really matters whether she wins or not."

The experience left Dancing on Ice champion Shaw emotionally bruised and earlier this year she said she had no intention of getting married.

When questioned about Noel on BBC Radio 1 today, the singer told Chris Moyles: "He's really clever because every interview I've done in the last week has mentioned Oasis.

"So I'm answering questions about their new record and he ends up in everybody's interviews. He is a publicity machine."

There are also fears that the performance in Kuala Lumpur, which coincides with Ramadan, will be offensive to their religion.

Nasrudin Hassan, of the Pan Malaysian Islamic Party PAS, explained their reasons for the action.

"A concert of this nature is not conducive to teach the younger generation to become good citizens, upright and competitive, but instead would weaken them morally and mentally.

"If the concert organisers do not heed this warning to cancel the concert, PAS youth will order all Muslim youth to turn up and protest the concert in order to prevent it from taking place."

He also suggested that a new album "is on the cards" but will only happen once Zeppelin "iron out" the many issues within the group.

The Scottish rockers complained that festival organisers haven't been able to fulfil their strange request this summer, but they are more hopeful when they go on their own tour, which takes place in the US in September and October, and the UK in November.

Speaking at Leeds Festival, Jon Fratelli said: "It should be good - we're sort of working on ideas for setting lots of things on fire, which is what we tried to do for festivals but they've got loads of rules and they wouldn't let us.

"Most of our ideas tend to involve setting something on fire so we're trying to do (it). We couldn't do it as festivals so we're trying to do it for this tour - set roadies on fire and stuff and just see how they take it," he joked.

Jon also said they wanted to give the proceeds of their single Look Out Sunshine to the Teenage Cancer Trust so they wouldn't "annoy rich people into giving money".

"We've been trying lots of other little things and it usually involves getting rich people to part with their cash," he explained. "But we thought, 'well it can't just be us annoying rich people into giving money', so we decided there and then to make sure that the record label would give the proceeds away."

Look Out Sunshine is out now.

Darren Day banned for drink-driving

(Wednesday August 27, 2008 10:18 AM)

Actor and singer Darren Day was banned from driving for 18 months after admitting being drunk behind the wheel.

The 40-year-old was almost twice the drink-drive limit when he was pulled over by police in Cardiff city centre in the early hours of June 18.

He had been due to stand trial at Cardiff Magistrates' Court on Wednesday after denying the charge at a previous hearing.

But he arrived at court in the morning on Wednesday without legal representation and changed his plea to guilty.

As well as banning Day from driving, District Judge Geraint Watkins also fined him £700.

Prosecutor David Roberts told the court there had been a lack of correspondence from Day's solicitors in relation to potential differences in the case and that he was told on Tuesday afternoon the actor intended representing himself.

Mr Roberts said police spotted the black Mercedes driven by Day as they patrolled St Mary Street in Cardiff and believed it was breaking the speed limit.

He said the officers turned their car around and followed the Mercedes, which went through a red light at the road's junction with Mill Lane.

Mr Roberts said the police flashed their car's blue lights and sounded the siren and the Mercedes was driven on to the wrong side of the road before it stopped.

Macca to play Israel

(Wednesday August 27, 2008 09:52 AM)

Paul McCartney will play a concert in Tel Aviv next month, according to reports.

The former Beatle has been linked with a historic show in Israel in recent months, after receiving an official invitation from the government.

In 1965, The Fab Four were banned from entering the country amid fears that their music could corrupt the nation's youth.

However, Israeli officials sent apology letters to Sir Macca and Ringo Starr earlier this year, clearing the way for the concert.

There are now fresh claims it will take place on September 25. Stuart Bell, a spokesman for McCartney, could not confirm the reports.

Katona Goes Under Knife For TV

(Wednesday August 27, 2008 07:25 AM)

Singer-turned-reality TV star Kerry Katona will return to the small screen when she undergoes cosmetic surgery for a new programme.

The 27-year-old star is fed up with her drooping breasts after baring four children, and has agreed to let cameras at MTV follow her as she undergoes breast reduction surgery.

She says, "After four kids I need it. I'm a GG at the moment, and when I take my bra off my nipples are by my feet. I want to be a DD instead."

The MTV deal could not have come at a better time for the former Atomic Kitten star, who filed for bankruptcy just last week after failing to pay the final GBP91,100 of a GBP463,300 tax bill.

According to reports, the network will not be funding the procedure.

Actor Day faces drink driving trial

(Wednesday August 27, 2008 06:08 AM)

Actor and singer Darren Day is expected to stand trial charged with drink driving.

Day, 40, who is on unconditional bail, denied the charge at a previous hearing before Cardiff magistrates.

The court had heard that Day, who gave an address in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, was pulled over by police in the Welsh city at around 1.50am on June 18.

Prosecutor Lynne Bartlett told magistrates that officers stopped the Mercedes being driven by Day when they saw it go through a red light.

She said the officers attempted to use a breathalyser test at the roadside but had to take Day to the station when the machine was unable to give a reading.

At the police station, Day gave a reading of 65 micrograms in 100 millilitres of breath. The limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath.

Jenny Kumeta, defending, said Day disputed the manner in which the officers claim he drove the car and said he was only in the vehicle for 20 seconds. She also said there were "issues" regarding the breathalyser test

Jodeci blames haphazard gig on star's epilepsy

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 02:20 PM)

Singer K-Ci has slammed reports stating his brother JoJo collapsed drunk onstage at a recent Jodeci reunion gig in Sydney - insisting he had a epileptic fit on-stage.

The R+B group infuriated fans at a show at Enmore Theatre in Sydney, Australia on Saturday after founding member Donald DeGrate apparently pulled out, leaving brothers Cedric and Joel Hailey - who perform together under the name K-Ci and JoJo - to take the stage.

Revellers booed and threw bottles at the stage as the duo seemingly forgot song lyrics and, at one point, even sat down.

The gig was thrown into further chaos after JoJo appeared to pass out, lying still as a security guard came on stage to pick up the star's microphone.

And K-CI is eager to explain JoJo's collapse was due to a medical condition, which was brought on due to their intensive travel schedule before the show.

The Queens Of The Stone Age leader is expected to produce the band's first new material since "Favourite Worst Nightmares".

The rock icon said Alex Turner and co will fly out to a studio in Joshua Tree, California to begin work.

"I think it's going to work out great. They want to submerge themselves in a place that's the opposite of where they're from and what they're used to.

"I think we're just going to start by doing a couple of tracks. No pressure. The goal is to make something that they dig so much that everyone else can too", Homme told the NME.

Paps invade Paris' hair band party

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 11:36 AM)

Arriving more than an hour late, a pouting Paris Hilton knew exactly how to play up the publicity for her new hair extension hair band, 'The Bandit'.

After posing for pictures in a short pastel-blue 50s jumpsuit, the heiress quickly changed into an even skimpier white swimsuit with the word 'Paris' spelt out in rhinestones on the front, and 'Hilton' spelt out on the back just above her bum.

An army of invited reporters and film crews joined party guests at the 'secret' mansion by the sea in Malibu. But the proceedings were also watched by more than a dozen paparazzi who managed to gate-crash the party by scrambling on to the beach with their long lenses.

Paris didn't disappoint, leading out a special swimsuit fashion show in the sand, with her own album playing as a soundtrack.

Then addressing her friends, fans and photographers, she said: "Let's enjoy the day, it's a beautiful day in Malibu, it's almost the end of the summer, so let's celebrate."

The infamous party-girl later admitted that she loved to change her appearance constantly with things like extensions: "I think it's an important part of your look for your hair to be looking good and I've had short hair for a long time which I love but it's fun with the Bandit."

Paris wasn't shy to admit that looks are everything to her: "It's very important, image is what my brand is and who I am."

Australia welcomes Snoop

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 11:01 AM)

Snoop Dogg has been granted a visa to enter Australia, it has been confirmed.

The controversial hip hop icon was barred from touring the country in 2007, following a series of high-profile legal problems.

However, a new government has cleared the way for the rapper to visit for 17-days from October 21.

"He has now been assessed under the character test as having passed, so he will be given a visa", an immigration official told Reuters.

The decision has angered local crime watchdogs, including the Australian Family Association.

Spokeswoman Angela Conway told the Herald Sun newspaper: "Snoop Dogg trades in toxic messages of menace, violence, misogyny and lawlessness".

Film role for Amy's dad?

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 10:45 AM)

Amy Winehouse's dad Mitch is to make his acting debut in a new British film, according to reports.

The embattled pop star's father has been pictured alongside the singer in the media throughout her battle with drugs.

It has now been claimed that Mr Winehouse will play a taxi driver - mirroring his real life profession - on the big screen.

Currently in pre-production, the movie is expected to capture the tale of a one-hit wonder in the 1980s music business.

Film-makers are said to have been impressed by his "charm". An 'insider' explained: "Mitch has become almost as recognisable as Amy.

"He's always on hand when his daughter gets into scrapes. He comes across very well when he appears on TV to defend his daughter and the film's producers like his charm."

Killers star fears for future of unsigned bands

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 08:15 AM)

The Killers star Mark Stoermer has spoken out about his fears for the future of unsigned bands as music labels are financially struggling to support new acts.

The bassist believes new bands have to be vigilant as the music industry suffers from illegal downloads and a dramatic drop in CD sales.

And the star urges fans not to blame big labels for not supporting new acts - insisting they are trying their best to push forward new talent.

He says, "It's a really hard time for new bands. It's not that there's a lack of good music, it's just that labels are struggling financially.

"Some people say that record labels are bad but people forget they are the ones who break the bands and get them on their way."

But Stoermer is adamant record labels will survive.

He adds, "In the Eighties no-one was really going to see live music. Now it's big business.

Ritchie: 'Madonna's brother was desperate'

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 06:08 AM)

Guy Ritchie believes his wife Madonna's brother penned a tell-all book on the singer because he was desperate for the attention.

The filmmaker insists he isn't bothered by Christopher Ciccone's book Life With My Sister Madonna, which made a series of allegations about the Material Girl's private life.

But Snatch director Ritchie denies Ciccone's claim he is homophobic - because Madonna wouldn't stand for it.

Ritchie says, "I don't make anything of the book. The poor chap wrote it out of desperation. I don't think it'd be intelligent to comment on that. I can't give too much equity in what the chap's gonna write in that book.

"But you'd be hard pushed to be a homophobe and marry Madonna."

Spears' manager: Britney not performing at VMAs

(Tuesday August 26, 2008 06:08 AM)

Britney Spears has dashed hopes she'll have a second attempt at a career comeback by taking to the MTV stage later this year for the network's forthcoming Video Music Awards (VMAs).

The pop star shocked audiences last year with a shaky performance of her hit song Gimme More, baring her belly and stumbling across the stage.

Spears' comeback performance at the awards show has been rumoured in recent weeks - after her hair stylist Kim Vo reported he was creating styles for the singer's forthcoming show to E! News.

But the singer's manager Larry Rudolph has reportedly hit back at the claims.

According to Los Angeles radio talk show host Ryan Seacrest, Rudolph has confirmed the star "is in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and was never supposed to perform at that show," adding: "Britney Spears will not be performing at the VMAs this year. I'm telling you officially and unequivocally."

But Spears' involvement in the ceremony has not been totally scrapped - the Toxic hitmaker can be seen in a promotional video with host Russell Brand, rapper LL Cool J, and Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz.

She has also secured nominations for two awards at the ceremony - Best Female and Best Pop Video categories, for her track Piece of Me.

The MTV VMAs show is set to air in the US on 7 September.

Cardiff hails Queen of Pop Madonna

(Monday August 25, 2008 07:44 PM)

For a woman who has just turned 50, Madonna could be forgiven for being obsessed with time.

In her first concert since reaching the milestone, a ticking sound and images of clocks punctuated the opening night of her Sticky and Sweet world tour.

The message "Game Over" filled screens around the stage as she left on Friday night, but her energetic performance - which including skipping, pole dancing and break-dancing - would seem to suggest her career is anything but.

Madonna sealed her position as Queen of Pop by entering the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff, on a throne in a glittering black Givenchy outfit before revisiting classic looks and hits during a two-hour set.

The only thing some fans could be rightly disappointed with was a lack of controversy, after her last tour saw her suspended on a crucifix.

The diverse production was not without drama however, with Britney Spears making a much-anticipated appearance on a video screen.

Doherty saves the day at Reading festival

(Monday August 25, 2008 01:35 PM)

Troubled rocker Pete Doherty has been hailed a hero after he prevented a massive fire by alerting authorities to smoke at this weekend's Reading festival The singer had arrived at the event on Saturday, where he was due to play a gig with his band Babyshambles, when he spotted smoke billowing from a parking lot.

He proceeded to phone the fire department to report the blaze - to the amazement of onlookers.

One witness tells The Daily Star, "It was thanks to him that the fire did not spread any further.

"I was amazed - I've never seen him move so fast. He's the last person you'd expect to have such a lightning reaction to anything, unless it was illegal. But he stopped the situation from getting any worse."

Nineteen cars were damaged in the blaze but no one was hurt.

Ritchie explains Spears' Madonna cameo

(Monday August 25, 2008 12:35 AM)

Madonna's husband Guy Ritchie has explained how Britney Spears came to make a cameo appearance in his wife's new stage show - it was based on a real-life incident.

The pop superstar kicked off her Sticky + Sweet tour in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday and the concert included a special video appearance from Spears, who is seen dancing in an elevator.

And Ritchie admits that Spears' role in the show was created after Madonna saw a video of a similar incident.

He says, "Britney in the lift is based on real footage the missus saw of someone stuck in a lift for 48 hours. The dancing is inspired by what happened inside.

Howard's stalking song

(Monday August 25, 2008 10:35 AM)

Actor Terrence Howard called upon dark memories to record his debut album Shine It Through - he wrote a song about stalking his ex-wife.

The Iron Man star is releasing his first LP next month, and was prompted to write tracks after splitting with the mother of his three children, Lori McCommas.

And the actor admits he hit some lows before penning the song No 1 Fan - because he stalked his former lover while she dated other men.

He tells the New York Times, "I wrote that song (No 1 Fan) as a stalker. It was raining, and I was sitting there in front of the house, watching her come home from a date after we were divorced.

"I was imagining what she did on this date, and watching her giving him a kiss. I went home and wrote this song.

McCain slams Madonna's 'smear' campaign

(Monday August 25, 2008 09:40 AM)

US presidential candidate John McCain took aim at Madonna after the pop superstar seemingly used her latest world tour to compare the Republican leader to history's most notorious dictators.

The Material Girl kicked off her Sweet + Sticky tour in Cardiff, Wales on Saturday, and featured McCain in a video segment which accompanied the song Get Stupid.

In the footage, watched by thousands of fans, the Republican politician's image was flashed up alongside scenes of destruction, global warming and starving children.

Adolf Hitler and Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe also appeared on-screen.

And McCain's representatives are furious at the singer's comparisons, stating fans of democratic contender Barack Obama will stop at nothing to smear McCain's campaign.

The Republican's spokesman Tucker Bounds says, "The comparisons are outrageous, unacceptable and crudely divisive all at the same time.

"It clearly shows that when it comes to supporting Barack Obama, his fellow worldwide celebrities refuse to consider any smear or attack off limits."

Although Madonna hasn't publicly backed Obama, she featured the popular politician alongside images of beloved cultural icons, including John Lennon, Gandhi and climate control advocate Al Gore.

Girls Aloud eye reality show

(Monday August 25, 2008 08:35 AM)

Pop group Girls Aloud are to recruit a new member as part of a new reality show, according to reports.

The hit girl band was formed in 2002 as part of TV talent show Popstars: The Rivals.

And now the Biology hitmakers look set to return to the reality show roots with their own series - dedicated to finding a new singer, who will join the group for a special one-off gig.

A source tells British newspaper the Sunday Mirror, "The girls have never forgotten that reality TV gave them their first break. Now they want to give someone else the chance. The winner will get to perform with the group on stage during a one-off concert but the girls hope they'll be able to discover a hidden talent who could join the band as a fully paid-up member. It makes sense for them to look for someone who can stand in if one of them can't make a show."

I'm happy to be home, says Michael

(Sunday August 24, 2008 08:40 PM)

George Michael told British fans it was good to be home as he performed one of the final shows in his two-year 25 Live Tour.

The singer was speaking to fans at the first of two arena shows at Earls Court in London - the combination of a tour that has consisted of more than 100 dates.

The star played the hits Fastlove, I'm Your Man and Father Figure before saying: "It's ... great to be home I have to tell you."

He continued: "When we were last here I think we were probably on show 20 of this tour and I honestly thought it was going to be a three-month tour and here we are two years later. You are going to be the recipients of 103 shows' experience."

He then asked the sell-out audience if they remember the year 1987 before playing a little known song that was only released in America that year, Hard Day.

Michael's tour began in Barcelona in September 2006 and he has entertained more than 1.3 million fans across Europe and North America. The 21-date American leg of the tour was the first time he has performed there for 17 years and included New York, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Chicago and Washington.

Perry holds top spot for third week

(Sunday August 24, 2008 06:02 PM)

American former gospel singer Katy Perry has held on to her number one spot for the third week running.

Her single I Kissed A Girl, which has received criticism for its lyrics, held off a challenge from Irish three-piece The Script to stay on top, The Official UK Charts Company said.

Their song, The Man Who Can't Me Moved, moves up one place and swaps with Kid Rock's single All Summer Long, which falls one place to three.

Moving up two places to number four is Rihanna with her new single Disturbia. At five - also moving up two - is hip-hop band Madcon with Beggin'. And Dizzee Rascal faces disappointment as his single Dance Wiv Me drops again this week, down one place to number six. Meanwhile, The Verve's Love Is Noise falls three places to number seven.

A new entry at number 10 is Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro with their single Mountains. Another new entry to the top 20 is Welsh band the Automatic with their new single Steve McQueen
