Nick Jonas gives insight into diabetes battle on reality show

(Saturday August 09, 2008 09:25 AM)

The Jonas Brothers' youngest star Nick brought his battle with diabetes to the small screen in an episode of the band's reality show dedicated entirely to his struggle with the illness.
The 15-year-old pop singer was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2005 - prompting a nine-month stay in hospital in an attempt to stabilise his condition.
The Disney Channel series Jonas Brothers: Living the Dream details the daily routine of injections, tests and treatment Nick undergoes just to stay healthy.
The teen pop sensations were forced to stall a live performance last Saturday when Nick fell ill onstage, prompting his brothers Kevin, 20 and Joe, 18, to distract fans and seek medical assistance.
The siblings' dad, Kevin Sr., has also spoken out about the illness. In a recent issue of Rolling Stone magazine, he says: "I can't tell you how frustrating it is to hear people belittle diabetes because it's maintainable... Everybody on our team is on full alert, watching every move Nick makes on that stage every single night of his life."
The episode airred in the US on Friday.
