Incubus to 'Disappear for a Year or Two'

With two Incubus members heading off to school and another awaiting fatherhood, lead singer Brandon Boyd tells Billboard.com that Incubus have plans to lay low for a couple years. "I'm of the mind to say it wouldn't be a bad thing to disappear for a year or two years," Boyd says. "A lot of people would say culture moves too fast and you need to remind people, but I would argue there's not any rush. Maybe they'll be a sex scandal or an arrest or something to keep us in the news."It seems Incubus guitarist Mike Einziger will stay busy with solo work in the interim. On August 23, he'll introduce an orchestral piece that he wrote at Royce Hall on the UCLA campus. "[Mike] did the Time Lapse Consortium, which was a solo thing, even though most of Incubus played on it," Boyd said. "But this one is just Mikey. This time, the band will just go to watch. He's moving into ambitious territory."Both Boyd and Einziger also plan to pursue higher education in university arts programs. "And, our drummer is having a baby, so there's a lot of normal life stuff going on right now—school, babies, mortgages," Boyd says.
