Amy 'skips birthday bash'

Amy Winehouse was absent from her own birthday party at the weekend, according to reports.

The beleaguered star turned 25 on Sunday and was due to mark the occasion with a bash at Jazz After Dark in London.

However she apparently refused to attend Saturday's party, turning down three taxis which arrived at her Camden home.

A 'friend' told a UK tabloid Amy was too depressed to attend. "She was standing in front of the mirror telling everyone how rough she looked.

"Unfortunately her lifestyle has had a major affect on her appearance and it's only just started to sink in.

"She kept saying she was ugly and was in an awful state. They couldn't get her out", the 'friend' explained.

Amy Winehouse played a poorly received set at Bestival on the Isle of Wight earlier this month, in what is expected to be her final live date of 2008.
